Earwax is a natural substance that helps to protect your ears from dust and other particles. It is produced by glands in the ear canal and is usually soft and sticky. However, sometimes earwax can build up and become hard and dry. This can cause several problems, including hearing loss, earache, tinnitus, and dizziness. It is advisable to see a regulated professional for ear wax removal.
At HM ear care we use various methods for ear wax removal, we may use a combination of methods.
Microsuction
Microsuction is performed by using a small suction device to remove earwax. This is accepted as the safest, most effective method of resolving ear wax.
Irrigation/Syringing
It involves injecting a stream of warm water into the ear canal, which helps to dislodge the earwax. The earwax is then collected in a basin.
Manual removal
The process of manually extracting the earwax from the canal involves the use of specialised microtools when necessary.
What to Expect at your ear wax removal appointment?
History and consent
The Audiologist will ask questions about your ears, explain the procedure of ear wax removal and you will asked to sign a consent form.
Examination and wax removal
Following the consent, your ear will be visualised using a camera. Wax removal will be completed by using a combination approached such as microsuction and manual removal or irrigation and manual removal. The preferred method would be microsuction.
Do I need to anything before the appointment?
